If you can say No, you are not a slave. You are your own individual. Slaves get trapped, and are like puppets on the devil’s string. Can you see why we consider it being out of control? We are just being played with! Living by the clamouring of the lower powers would destroy us in the end. The higher powers are creative and life-giving.
Why are we being played with? Satan hates God and he wishes to destroy human beings who were made in the image of God in the beginning. It is his whole aim in existence—to deceive, tempt, annoy, and eventually destroy, but all the while promising us freedom, pleasure, satisfaction and happiness. He lies to us all the time! |

- Our conscience. This is a special higher power. Because we do not listen to it very often, it is almost dead, but when we do take notice again - even just once - then it begins to awaken. A healthy lifestyle will make it more sensitive too. It is an important part of our fresh beginning. It is a gift from God to help us regain what we have lost as human beings. It makes it clearer for us to know when we should say Yes or No. The more we listen, the more awake it will become. If we fight it, we will never be at peace. But if we obey the still, small voice we will have serenity and quiet in our hearts, with a calm joy that is better than tablets.

| What we need is a big chain! And we need to use it regularly, to keep the lower powers of desire, passion and appetite in captivity and under the control of the higher powers of reason, intelligence and conscience. The lower powers are not evil or dirty. We need them to live, to know when we are hungry or thirsty. We need affection. We need to procreate. BUT they are the parts of our lives where the devil attacks us and we fall. To have health we must let the control be under of the higher powers of reason, intelligence and conscience. They must be the ones that have the last word. |

PROBLEM. We have tried saying No. We cannot do it by ourselves, and we know what failure means. We need something outside of ourselves to come to the rescue.
ANSWER. God made us. God gave us our lives. He gave us the laws for abundant life. He knows what we need.
He knows our weakness. He has the power! He will not do it for us, though. He made us with the capacity to ask for help.
Would you be too proud to ask God for help? It is there for you any time you wish.
YOUR CHALLENGE - to Claim the Power of God.
Do you dare to be an individual in your own right and try this way of reaching health and hope. It will mean stepping outside of what is familiar and doing something that maybe you have never done before in your life - praying. |
| First, God says to you - |
- 'Come boldly to the throne of grace … and find grace to help in time of need.' Hebrews 4:16.
Again He promises that you will be able to say -
- ‘I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me.’ Philippians 4:13.

| God has all the power you need to make your resolutions real, and God wants to help you. In fact there is rejoicing in heaven when someone looks up and asks for help. |

How do you ask? When you find yourself tempted and about to give in, talk to God. You know now where the strong temptation comes from, you know you do not have to fall again. You know there is a promised solution. Say quickly, 'Please help me. Thank you.' That is a prayer to God. Rapidly do your part ‘to take your hands away’ and ‘look away’ and ‘go away’, and there will be help in your mind to be strong. It may surprise you.
