If there is a God why does he allow suffering?

never entirely lost. This gives the benefits at school, college and the workplace.

It has been found that listening to Mozart for three ten minute periods has increased the results of intelligence testing by 8 points. This was higher than those using relaxation tapes or not listening to anything. Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nacht Musik had the affect of putting people into a ‘maths’ frame of mind. Mozart’s music lends itself to enhancing abstract reasoning. Music can affect how we are in the work place. Those who have had some study of music or playing an instrument are more self-confident, have increased self-esteem and good self-discipline.

Music can affect our total health and development, so it is useful to be aware of the type of music that gives us the most benefit.

Playing a classical instrument has been found to reduce to pain and duration of migraines, and with heart patients 30 minutes of classical music can have the same affect as a 10 mg dose of Valium.

Music affects our pulse rate our heart beat, our breathing, our brain waves, and our muscle tension. Realising this now, we then think of the music that plays around us and the music that we encouraged to download, and we can see just how we are being manipulated away from the music that will make us strong and self reliant to being weakened human beings with reduced brain power in solving problems and decision making ability.

Those who listen to disorganised music of whatever kind have brains that are constantly fighting chaos and this is a destroying and confusing process. The neurons merely develop wildly with no connections being made. Some music is reputedly given to us to alter our mood, effect how we shop, or how long we stay at a fast food outlet. To retain our human dignity we need to claim our minds back from what is imposed upon us by clever manipulators.

Begin with a ‘music fast’ of three weeks then add in some classical music, and devotional music. Make collections for yourself that will help you and give you positive moods and healthy body functions, and a strong mind.

It is worth saying that some of the new religious music today also comes into the category of manipulatory music. It comes to us via a worship leader; it is repetitive with varying pseeds as the emotional pressure builds or it becomes a chant that affects other parts of our mind. At time like this, as arms are raised to signify a letting go of inhibitions, and the dance begins, we are then optimally vulnerable to the suggestions and the thoughts of the leaders. In this atmosphere we are less able to see what is truth and error. The cadences of the music copy the psychological techniques of other genres of music that we might wish to avoid, but in a fellowship with others who are Christian this music is played and the manipulation of our minds begins, gradually weakening us and taking us from the strength of a personal study and a simple individual faith relationship with God

God wants us to have strong decision making skills; and insights into truth and error that will affect our eternal destiny. But even religion has been infiltrated and the music is commercial and money-making. Courses are set up to which people are invited to attend and take the new songs back to their own groups, across all faith communities. Individuality is lost.

Music is vital to our health, whether it be bird song, the stream or the waves, or the instrumental music that we play or listen to or sing along with. We need to choose wisely especially for our young people whose brains are developing. This is why some people today advocate simpler country living as the best way. To wake to a dawn chorus and begin the day with a strong devotional hymn together; maybe with the younger musicians accompanying it on an instrument, so that it stays in the mind all day as one goes about one’s tasks, as a reminder of God and His higher aims for our health and restoration.
